MeMi Textiles Raises €700,000 to Scale Sustainable Superabsorbent Technology

MeMi Textiles, the German sustainable textile start‑up known for developing a high‑performance reusable superabsorber aimed at replacing chemical superabsorbers in disposable products, has secured fresh funding that marks a significant milestone in its growth trajectory. The Pliezhausen‑based company, founded in 2022 by Franziska Nowak and Manuela Miller‑Feigl, announced that it has raised around €700,000 (approximately $810,000) in a seed financing round, a move designed to accelerate scaling of its proprietary technology and expand production and market reach.

The funding round is backed by a mix of institutional and angel investors that collectively bring financial support and industry expertise to the young enterprise. Leading the institutional side of the investment are the Kreissparkasse Esslingen‑Nürtingen, Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaft der Kreissparkasse Esslingen‑Nürtingen and Kreissparkasse Reutlingen, Wagniskapitalgesellschaft der Kreissparkasse Reutlingen, both financial entities with deep roots in Germany’s regional banking sector. These partners are participating in the round through their investment arms, signalling confidence in MeMi Textiles’ vision to transform the hygiene materials market with sustainable solutions.

Angel investor involvement is led by two prominent groups: the HEIMATBOOST GmbH pool, a venture community focused on supporting early‑stage companies, and a second angel consortium under the leadership of Afroditi Tsobanelis‑Görgen, a seasoned individual investor who has been closely involved with MeMi Textiles since its early growth phases.

This financing marks the most recent and largest announced round for MeMi Textiles to date. According to available data, the company has raised a total of approximately $1.28 million across three funding rounds, with the latest seed round accounting for roughly $810,000 of that total.

The company plans to deploy the new capital primarily towards scaling its patented textile technology, broadening its production capabilities, and accelerating commercial roll‑out across a wider array of hygiene applications. The innovative material at the heart of MeMi Textiles’ offering is designed to replace petrochemical‑based superabsorbers used in baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, and incontinence supplies with a reusable and washable textile that can significantly cut waste and environmental impact.

MeMi Textiles’ growth strategy has seen the fledgling business achieve notable early successes, including the market launch of its cloth diaper brand “kniti,” which combines thin, highly absorbent material with reusability and sustainability, and culminating in the company’s appearance on the German television show Die Höhle der Löwen in 2025. While a deal from the show did not materialize into a long‑term partnership, the exposure helped to elevate the brand and validate its commercial potential.

In addition to product development and direct‑to‑consumer branding efforts, the founders have also opened up their technology to B2B channels, responding to strong demand from companies seeking sustainable alternatives to conventional superabsorbent technologies, particularly in the adult incontinence segment. The latest funding is expected to support these collaborations and help MeMi establish a firmer foothold in both consumer and industrial markets.

The investor mix backing MeMi Textiles reflects a strategic blend of regional financial institutions and specialized angel networks, indicating a shared belief in the potential of sustainable textile innovation. With this new capital, the company aims to deepen its technological capabilities, expand production infrastructure, and further its mission to reduce reliance on single‑use, chemically intensive materials in hygiene and related sectors.
