MatrixSpace Raises $20M Series B to Scale AI-Powered Portable Radar for Defense and Civil Applications

MatrixSpace

MatrixSpace has closed a US$20 million Series B funding round, a major boost for the company’s development of portable AI-powered radar systems for counter-drone and sensing applications. The round was co-led by The Raptor Group and OTB Ventures, with participation from defense-sector heavyweight L3Harris, taking MatrixSpace’s total funding to approximately US$58 million to date.

MatrixSpace specializes in compact radar hardware powered by on-edge AI, enabling “4D” environmental sensing: detecting, classifying, and tracking objects at range and in all weather or lighting conditions — situations where traditional optical sensors or human observers may fail. The company’s platform is pitched for dual-use: from critical infrastructure protection and civil airspace monitoring to defense, general aviation, and robotics. The fresh investment will help MatrixSpace accelerate deployment of its radar products to customers in sectors where reliable, portable, and AI-enabled situational awareness is in demand.

MatrixSpace first raised US$10 million in Series A funding in June 2023, with the round led by The Raptor Group and participation from Intel Capital. That round enabled early product development and initial scaling. The company has described itself as “re-imagining radar” by building small, affordable systems capable of digitizing the outdoors and extending human senses — whether for objects moving on the ground, in the air, or in other dynamic environments. Since then, MatrixSpace has steadily built its technology, customer list, and credibility in the emerging market for AI-based sensing solutions.

In this latest round, The Raptor Group and OTB Ventures’ involvement signals continued faith in MatrixSpace’s vision — combining private deep-tech investment with defense-industry backing to scale edge-sensing solutions. The addition of L3Harris, a major global defense contractor, strengthens MatrixSpace’s ties to defense and aerospace markets and may accelerate regulatory, procurement, and deployment processes in both defense and civil applications.

MatrixSpace’s radar solution emphasizes portability and real-time AI processing at the edge, rather than relying on cloud servers, making it suitable for deployment in remote or infrastructure-limited environments. Its ability to operate in low-visibility, low-light, or challenging environmental conditions gives it an edge over traditional optical or camera-based surveillance and marks it as a potentially disruptive technology in counter-UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System), perimeter security, and autonomous systems monitoring.

With the new funding, MatrixSpace plans to accelerate product rollouts and expand its market reach across civil, commercial, and defense sectors. The company sees demand growing as customers increasingly require reliable drone detection, airspace security, and smart-sensing solutions that can be deployed quickly and affordably compared to traditional radar or surveillance systems.

The investment round also reflects a broader shift in industry demand: governments, enterprises, and critical infrastructure operators are increasingly looking for compact, AI-driven sensing systems to manage drone threats, support autonomous operations, or monitor complex environments in real time. MatrixSpace’s combination of radar hardware, AI-driven classification, and portable deployment positions it well to meet that demand.

With US$58 million raised, seasoned investors backing it, and a product suite addressing urgent real-world challenges, MatrixSpace is poised for rapid expansion. Its latest funding round should accelerate the company’s growth trajectory and help bring next-generation AI-enhanced radar technologies into wider use.
