Cline Secures $32M to Scale Agentic AI Coding Platform for Enterprise Software Teams
Cline has raised US$32 million in combined Seed and Series A funding to bring its agentic AI coding tools to enterprise software teams. The most recent investment was led by Emergence Capital, alongside Pace Capital, 1984 Ventures, Essence VC, Cox Exponential, and angel investors such as Jared Friedman (Partner, Y Combinator), Eric Simons (CEO, Bolt.new), Logan Kilpatrick, Addy Osmani, and Theo Browne.
The funding will support the expansion of Cline Teams, the company’s enterprise platform designed to scale agentic AI coding features for large organizations. It also enables growth of the team and extension of its product offerings beyond VS Code to wherever developers write code.
Cline’s open-source coding agent is used by about 2.7 million developers and is adopted in Fortune 500 companies such as Samsung and SAP, particularly among organizations with strict privacy and control requirements. The company emphasizes transparent pricing: users pay for the AI’s costs directly, with no hidden markups or performance throttling.
“We believe inference cannot be the business strategy,” said Saoud Rizwan, Founder of Cline. He noted that what began as a hobbyist open-source project rapidly became a tool for serious engineering work, adopted organically by enterprises seeking faster software development. Cline Teams supplies enterprise capabilities like organization-level controls, membership management, centralized billing and usage tracking, and robust foundations for account, payments, and future policy/security controls.
Yaz El-Baba, Partner at Emergence Capital, observed that Cline’s open-source and transparent approach to agentic coding represents a paradigm shift for organizations wanting full power from AI without compromise.
Engineering teams in highly security-sensitive or Zero-Trust enterprises are choosing Cline because many alternatives—especially tools that route code through external servers—do not pass compliance review. For these enterprises, the choice is often Cline or nothing.
Founded by Saoud Rizwan, Cline builds open-source AI coding agents focused on transparency, full model access, open prompting, and pricing that reflects real AI cost. The Cline Teams extension adds enterprise-grade security, administration, and governance to make agentic AI secure and scalable globally.
