Turner Home Team Raises More Than $1 Million in Seed Funding to Expand Carolina Home Acquisition Platform

Turner Home Team, a Greenville, North Carolina-based residential real estate acquisition company, has closed a Preferred Series Seed financing round of more than $1 million, marking a significant milestone for the business as it looks to accelerate growth across North and South Carolina.

The round was led by the Pirate Entrepreneurship Fund, an East Carolina University-affiliated venture fund. The investment represents the fund’s first backing of a residential real estate acquisition platform and adds Turner Home Team to its growing portfolio of ECU-connected businesses.

Founded in 2022 by Justin Turner, Turner Home Team has developed a direct-to-seller home acquisition platform focused on providing homeowners with a streamlined alternative to traditional property sales. The company purchases homes directly from owners and has built its operations around in-house construction expertise, proprietary valuation processes, artificial intelligence, and direct transaction management.

According to the company, the business has already completed more than $8 million in residential real estate transactions across North and South Carolina since its launch. The latest financing provides institutional support for a company operating in a market that has historically been dominated by smaller operators with limited access to growth capital.

Turner, who graduated summa cum laude in finance from East Carolina University and is both a licensed general contractor and real estate broker, said the funding will help accelerate the development of a technology-enabled platform designed to offer homeowners a more transparent and efficient selling experience.

The company’s vertically integrated model allows it to manage acquisitions, renovations, and transaction processes internally, giving it greater control over execution and customer experience. Management believes this structure, combined with increasing use of artificial intelligence and technology-driven underwriting tools, creates a foundation for scalable expansion throughout the Carolinas.

Representatives of the Pirate Entrepreneurship Fund cited Turner Home Team’s operational consistency and technology-focused approach as key factors behind the investment decision. Fund leaders noted that the company has demonstrated an ability to source, evaluate, and complete residential property acquisitions with a level of discipline that positions it for future growth.

The financing also highlights the expanding role of East Carolina University’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Since its launch, the Pirate Entrepreneurship Fund has invested in multiple ECU-affiliated ventures and has become one of the state’s notable university-connected investment vehicles. Fund executives described Turner Home Team as an example of a locally founded business addressing inefficiencies within a regional market while creating opportunities for long-term expansion.

Industry observers have increasingly focused on residential real estate technology companies that combine local market expertise with institutional processes. Turner Home Team’s strategy centers on acquiring homes directly from sellers who may be dealing with inherited properties, aging housing stock, relocation needs, rental property liquidations, or other situations where a traditional listing may not be the preferred option.

The company says Eastern North Carolina presents a particularly attractive opportunity due to its aging housing inventory, motivated seller demographics, and limited presence of large-scale institutional acquisition platforms. By combining local market knowledge with technology-driven operations, Turner Home Team aims to establish a stronger footprint in underserved areas of the residential real estate market.

Proceeds from the seed round will be used to expand acquisition capacity, increase staffing, and deepen operational capabilities across existing markets in North Carolina and South Carolina. The company also plans to continue investing in technology and process improvements designed to enhance underwriting, valuation, and transaction execution.

With fresh capital in hand and backing from an institutional investor, Turner Home Team enters its next phase of growth seeking to scale a business model that blends real estate expertise, technology, and operational discipline. The funding round represents a notable achievement for the young company and underscores investor interest in technology-enabled real estate platforms serving regional markets.
