Tortugas Neuroscience Raises $106 Million to Advance Clinical-Stage Treatments for Neurological Disorders

Tortugas Neuroscience, a neurology-focused biotechnology company developing therapies for central nervous system disorders, has raised $106 million in combined seed and Series A financing to advance its clinical-stage pipeline and support ongoing research and development programs. The financing was led by Cure Ventures, which served as the company’s founding investor and led the seed round, while The Column Group and AN Venture Partners joined as investors and co-led the Series A round. The company plans to use the capital to advance its lead drug candidates through Phase 2 clinical trials and develop treatments for neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions with significant unmet medical needs.

Founded in 2024 and headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, Tortugas Neuroscience is focused on developing medicines for diseases affecting the brain and central nervous system. The company was launched by biotechnology veterans Jeff Jonas, M.D., and Al Robichaud, Ph.D., who previously worked together at Sage Therapeutics. Tortugas is pursuing a strategy centered on clinically validated mechanisms of action and programs designed to move efficiently through development pathways.

The company’s pipeline includes small-molecule drug candidates targeting several neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, tinnitus, focal epilepsy, and reversible encephalopathies. Tortugas’ programs were in-licensed from Eisai and Jiangsu Hansoh Pharmaceutical Group, providing the company with clinical-stage assets that have established development histories and potential regulatory pathways.

Tortugas Neuroscience was created around the belief that significant opportunities remain for improving treatments for complex brain disorders. Many neurological and psychiatric conditions continue to have limited treatment options, creating demand for therapies that can deliver improved outcomes for patients. The company aims to develop medicines with differentiated pharmacological profiles and potential advantages over existing approaches.

The newly secured financing will support the company’s continued research and development efforts, including completion of Phase 2 clinical trials for its two lead candidates. The funding provides Tortugas with resources to advance its clinical programs, expand development activities, and build toward potential future regulatory milestones.

Cure Ventures, the company’s founding investor, focuses on forming and supporting life sciences companies built around innovative scientific discoveries. The firm led Tortugas’ seed financing and later participated in the Series A round, supporting the company’s strategy of advancing clinical-stage neuroscience programs.

The Column Group, a life sciences venture capital firm focused on building biotechnology companies, joined the financing as a Series A investor. The firm invests in companies developing transformative medicines and works with scientific founders and experienced biotechnology executives to advance drug discovery and development programs.

AN Venture Partners, a global biotechnology venture capital firm based in Tokyo and San Francisco, also participated in the financing. The firm invests in biotechnology companies connecting scientific innovation from Japan and other regions with the global startup ecosystem. AN Venture Partners joined Cure Ventures and The Column Group in supporting Tortugas’ efforts to advance neurological drug development.

The investment comes as interest in neuroscience-focused biotechnology continues to grow. Developing treatments for disorders of the central nervous system has historically been challenging because of the complexity of the brain and difficulties associated with drug discovery. Companies focused on clinically differentiated approaches and validated biological mechanisms are attracting attention from investors seeking opportunities in areas with substantial patient needs.

Tortugas’ leadership team brings significant experience in neuroscience drug development. Jeff Jonas, M.D., serves as chief executive officer, while Al Robichaud, Ph.D., serves as president and head of research and development. Both executives previously held leadership roles at Sage Therapeutics and have experience building biotechnology companies and advancing CNS-focused therapies.

The company’s approach focuses on developing therapies with the potential for meaningful patient impact while pursuing efficient development strategies. By combining experienced leadership, in-licensed clinical-stage assets, and significant venture backing, Tortugas aims to accelerate the development of new treatments for neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.

With its $106 million financing secured, Tortugas Neuroscience plans to continue advancing its pipeline and expanding its efforts to address serious brain disorders. The company’s long-term goal is to deliver new therapeutic options for patients worldwide by developing medicines that improve outcomes in areas where current treatment options remain limited.
