Skillsync Raises Early YC-Backed Funding to Build AI Platform for Open-Source Driven Engineering Talent Matching

Skillsync, an AI-powered developer hiring platform that matches engineers based on real open-source contributions rather than traditional resumes, has raised early-stage funding as it joins the Y Combinator Winter 2026 cohort.

The company is part of a new wave of recruitment infrastructure startups using artificial intelligence to evaluate engineering talent through objective signals such as GitHub activity, code quality, and project contributions. Founded in 2025 by Narayana Aaditya Ganeshkumar and Nishant Joshi, Skillsync builds structured skill profiles of developers by analyzing open-source repositories and translating them into searchable, capability-based data for hiring teams.

Skillsync’s funding to date includes a reported $500,000 seed round completed in early 2026. The round is primarily attributed to participation from Y Combinator, which provides accelerator-based seed investment along with mentorship, technical guidance, and access to its global investor network. The funding supports early product development and customer validation as the company expands its AI-driven hiring platform.

In addition to Y Combinator, Skillsync has been associated with early venture support through Character VC, which participated in its seed financing prior to its acceptance into the YC W26 batch. The combination of early institutional seed capital and accelerator backing reflects a typical funding path for AI infrastructure startups entering the talent and recruitment technology space.

The company’s platform is designed to help engineering teams identify high-skill developers who may be overlooked by traditional hiring systems. Instead of relying on resumes or LinkedIn profiles, Skillsync analyzes real-world code contributions to build evidence-based skill graphs. This allows employers to search for candidates using natural language queries such as specific programming expertise, systems experience, or production deployment history.

Skillsync’s founders bring direct experience from open-source development and technical systems engineering. Their motivation for building the company stems from challenges they encountered in identifying and recruiting high-quality engineers within large, decentralized open-source ecosystems. The platform aims to reduce hiring friction by automating technical screening and replacing subjective evaluation with data-driven assessment.

The company operates in the competitive AI recruitment and talent intelligence market, where other players include platforms focused on resume parsing, skills assessment, and enterprise hiring automation. However, Skillsync differentiates itself by focusing specifically on open-source code as the primary signal for evaluating engineering ability.

With backing from Y Combinator and early-stage investors such as Character VC, Skillsync is currently in its product development and early adoption phase. The company is expected to use its initial funding to refine its AI models, expand GitHub data processing capabilities, and onboard early enterprise customers seeking more precise engineering talent discovery tools.
