Rybodyn Raises $10 Million Seed Funding to Advance AI-Powered Cancer Target Discovery Platform

RyboDyn, a San Diego-based biotechnology company focused on decoding the “dark proteome” to develop next-generation cancer therapies, has secured the initial close of a $10 million seed financing round to accelerate its AI-driven drug discovery efforts and advance early-stage therapeutic programs toward clinical development.

The funding round attracted a syndicate of new and existing investors, building on the company’s earlier $4 million pre-seed financing completed in January 2025. Existing backers include Genedant, SeaX Ventures, SOSV, and Swell VC. New institutional investors participating in the seed round include Massive Tech Ventures and P2V.

Founded to explore previously inaccessible regions of human biology, RyboDyn is developing a proprietary platform that combines advanced RNA sequencing, proteomics, and artificial intelligence to uncover disease-specific targets hidden within the so-called dark genome. The company believes these discoveries could open entirely new avenues for treating cancer and other serious diseases.

The latest financing will support the company’s transition from foundational scientific discovery to scaled platform execution. RyboDyn plans to use the capital to expand its proprietary databases, advance therapeutic programs into investigational new drug-enabling studies, and deepen collaborations with pharmaceutical and academic partners.

At the core of the company’s technology stack is RyboCypher™, a sequencing platform designed to identify non-canonical RNA molecules that conventional sequencing technologies often miss. Data generated through the platform is integrated into CypherAtlas™, RyboDyn’s proprietary database that combines transcriptomic and proteomic information and serves as the foundation for AI models aimed at decoding the dark proteome.

According to the company, CypherAtlas has expanded rapidly since its initial proof-of-concept work. The database now contains information derived from approximately 1,000 patient tumor samples across 10 oncology indications. This work has led to the identification of more than three million previously uncharacterized dark RNA molecules and over 80,000 cryptic peptides detected through mass spectrometry, including roughly 15,000 that appear to be cancer-specific.

Many of these newly discovered proteins are believed to exist on the surface of cancer cells or within the extracellular environment, making them attractive targets for antibody-based therapies and other precision oncology approaches. RyboDyn’s leadership argues that the pharmaceutical industry faces a growing challenge as many established oncology targets become increasingly crowded with competing drug programs. By uncovering entirely new biological targets, the company aims to create first-in-class therapies for patient populations with limited treatment options.

The seed financing follows a period of rapid scientific and corporate progress for the company. In January 2025, RyboDyn announced the discovery of what it described as a cryptic human proteome and closed a $4 million pre-seed round co-led by Genedant Capital and SeaX Ventures, with participation from SOSV and Swell VC. The company said those funds were used to expand target discovery efforts and accelerate drug development activities.

Since then, RyboDyn has continued to grow its technological capabilities and strategic relationships. The company operates from Lilly Gateway Labs in San Diego, participates in Lilly’s AI TuneLabs consortium, and is a member of NVIDIA’s Inception program. It has also disclosed a strategic collaboration with Moffitt Cancer Center to support the validation and advancement of its discoveries.

RyboDyn’s founders believe that the dark proteome represents one of the most underexplored frontiers in biology. By combining proprietary sequencing technologies with artificial intelligence and large-scale biological datasets, the company aims to unlock a new generation of cancer therapies based on targets that have remained invisible to traditional drug discovery approaches.

With fresh capital and an expanding scientific platform, RyboDyn is positioning itself at the intersection of artificial intelligence, genomics, and oncology as it works to transform hidden biological insights into future medicines.
