Phonely Raises $16 Million Series A to Scale AI Voice Agents for Enterprise Customer Service

Phonely, a San Francisco-based developer of AI-powered voice agents for businesses, has raised $16 million in Series A funding to accelerate the expansion of its conversational AI platform. The financing brings the company’s total funding to approximately $19 million and will be used to grow its engineering and go-to-market teams, expand product capabilities, and support increasing demand from enterprises looking to automate customer phone interactions.

The Series A round was led by Base10 Partners, with participation from Y Combinator, Etech Global Services, TSA Group, and Engage CX. Notably, Etech Global Services, TSA Group, and Engage CX are also enterprise customers of Phonely, demonstrating confidence in the company’s technology by investing alongside their commercial partnerships.

Founded by an AI research group at the University of Melbourne, Phonely develops intelligent voice agents that enable businesses to automate inbound and outbound phone conversations using natural-sounding artificial intelligence. The platform is designed to answer customer calls, schedule appointments, resolve inquiries, qualify leads, and complete routine customer service tasks while maintaining conversational interactions that closely resemble those of human agents.

The company was created to address persistent challenges facing contact centers and customer service organizations. Businesses continue to rely heavily on phone calls for sales and support, yet many struggle with staffing shortages, high employee turnover, long customer wait times, and rising operating costs. Phonely’s AI platform is intended to reduce those challenges by allowing organizations to automate a significant portion of customer interactions without sacrificing service quality.

According to the company, billions of dollars in commerce continue to flow through business phone calls each day in the United States, making voice one of the most important communication channels despite the growth of digital messaging and online self-service. However, many organizations still depend on traditional call center infrastructure that can be expensive to scale and difficult to staff. Phonely believes AI voice agents can modernize these operations by providing continuous, around-the-clock customer support while improving operational efficiency.

The company reports rapid commercial adoption since launching its platform. Phonely says one customer processes approximately 60,000 calls each day through its system, while another replaced approximately 350 human customer service agents within a single month after deploying the company’s AI voice technology. These implementations demonstrate the increasing willingness of enterprises to integrate conversational AI into mission-critical customer support operations.

The newly raised capital will support continued investment in research and development, product innovation, customer success, and commercial expansion. Phonely is also actively hiring across engineering, sales, marketing, and customer support as it scales operations following the financing.

Artificial intelligence continues to reshape enterprise customer service as businesses seek ways to improve responsiveness while managing labor costs. Voice AI has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments within enterprise software, with advances in speech recognition, natural language understanding, and generative AI enabling increasingly sophisticated customer interactions. Phonely positions its platform within this rapidly expanding market by focusing specifically on high-quality voice conversations that can perform complex customer service functions.

Investor participation from Base10 Partners reflects growing venture capital interest in enterprise AI infrastructure, while continued backing from Y Combinator underscores confidence in the company’s growth trajectory following its accelerator program. The participation of strategic investors Etech Global Services, TSA Group, and Engage CX is particularly notable because each organization operates within the customer experience industry and has firsthand experience using Phonely’s technology in production environments.

Phonely has set an ambitious long-term objective of enabling its platform to answer one billion phone calls annually by 2027. As enterprises increasingly adopt AI to automate customer interactions while maintaining high service standards, the company plans to continue expanding its platform with additional capabilities that improve conversational accuracy, workflow automation, and enterprise integration.

With fresh backing led by Base10 Partners and participation from Y Combinator, Etech Global Services, TSA Group, and Engage CX, Phonely is positioned to accelerate development of its AI voice platform and expand its presence in the rapidly evolving enterprise communications market, helping businesses transform phone calls into a more intelligent, scalable, and efficient customer engagement channel.
