Nuclearn Secures $10.5 Million Series A to Bring AI Innovation to the Nuclear Energy Industry

Nuclearn

Nuclearn, a Phoenix-based startup that builds AI tools specifically for the nuclear industry, has announced a US$10.5 million Series A funding round led by Blue Bear Capital, with additional participation from SJF Ventures and follow-on support from existing backers AZ‑VC and Nucleation Capital.

The company, founded by nuclear-operations veterans, has developed an AI platform that helps automise workflows at nuclear reactors — from condition-report analysis and outage planning to engineering-document generation and regulatory-compliance tasks. Nuclearn reports its platform is already deployed in more than 65 reactors globally.

With the new funding, Nuclearn aims to scale its domain-specific AI capabilities and expand into new markets. The capital will be used to enhance its software suite (including generative AI and engineering-automation tools), hire additional data scientists, engineers and nuclear-industry specialists, and deepen its go-to-market efforts both in North America and internationally.

The nuclear-power industry is entering a phase of renewed interest — driven by a surge in demand for reliable, “always-on” baseload energy, the growth of data centres, electrification of industries and an ageing workforce. In this context, Nuclearn’s mission is aimed at modernising pre-existing reactor operations with AI tools tailored for the sector’s highly regulated and safety-conscious environment. One example: the company says that tasks that traditionally required hundreds of hours of highly trained staff can in some cases be completed in under a day with their system.

What sets Nuclearn apart is its focus on the nuclear-specific domain rather than generic enterprise AI. The founders bring hands-on nuclear-plant experience, and the models have been trained on the industry’s specialised terminology, processes and regulatory documentation. This gives the startup credibility in a field where change is often slow and risk-averse. The backing from Blue Bear Capital and other investors underscores a growing appetite for infrastructure-tech solutions that address critical energy sectors, not just consumer apps.

The company’s earlier seed round, led by AZ-VC and Nucleation Capital, laid the groundwork for its current growth phase. With this Series A round now closed, Nuclearn is positioned to accelerate expansion and deepen its penetration into the nuclear-operations market.

For brands and operators in the nuclear space facing workforce transitions, regulatory complexity and documentation burdens, Nuclearn’s proposition is clear: leverage AI to keep operations safe, efficient and future-ready. As the energy industry evolves — especially around decarbonisation and digitalisation — Nuclearn is placing itself at the intersection of nuclear and AI.
