Mesh++ Raises $4.9 Million Seed Funding to Expand Internet Connectivity for Underserved Communities
Mesh++, a connectivity technology startup focused on expanding internet access in underserved and rural communities, has raised $4.9 million in seed funding to accelerate the deployment of its wireless mesh networking technology. The funding round was designed to help the company move from research and development into broader commercialization, supporting partnerships with customers and distributors while expanding access to reliable internet connectivity.
The seed round was led by World Within, with participation from Lateral Capital, Anorak Ventures, First Leaf Capital, SOSV, GAN Ventures, TechNexus Venture Collaborative, and Illinois Ventures. The investment provided Mesh++ with additional resources to scale its mission of bringing affordable connectivity solutions to communities that lack access to traditional broadband infrastructure.
Founded by Danny Gardner, Mesh++ was created to address the global connectivity gap affecting rural and underserved areas. The company developed a wireless mesh networking system that allows individual routers to connect with nearby Mesh++ devices, creating a distributed network that can extend internet access beyond the reach of conventional infrastructure.
The company’s technology is built around a simple approach: users deploy Mesh++ routers that communicate with one another and share available internet connectivity across a wider area. Instead of relying solely on expensive traditional infrastructure such as fiber networks or large telecommunications projects, Mesh++ uses interconnected hardware nodes to create flexible networks that can expand as additional devices are added.
The newly raised capital marked an important transition for Mesh++, allowing the company to shift from a technology development phase toward a more commercially focused operation. CEO Danny Gardner said the financing would enable the company to work more closely with customers and distribution partners while expanding deployment of its connectivity solutions.
Mesh++ was initially developed within the University of Illinois ecosystem, where founder Danny Gardner began working on the technology while he was a student. The company later became part of the university’s EnterpriseWorks startup community and established operations in Chicago. The company has also worked internationally, with operations and team members connected to Nairobi as it pursued its goal of improving connectivity access.
Investor participation in the round reflects growing interest in technologies addressing infrastructure challenges and digital inclusion. World Within, which led the financing, focuses on impact-oriented investments and supported Mesh++ as the company worked to expand access to internet connectivity.
Lateral Capital, Anorak Ventures, and First Leaf Capital joined the financing as new investors, providing additional backing for Mesh++’s expansion plans. Their participation highlighted investor interest in hardware and networking companies that address major technology access challenges.
Existing investors including SOSV, GAN Ventures, TechNexus Venture Collaborative, and Illinois Ventures also participated in the round. SOSV had previously supported Mesh++ through its HAX hardware accelerator program, which helps early-stage companies develop physical technology products.
Mesh++’s funding arrived at a time when governments, companies, and technology organizations were placing greater emphasis on expanding broadband access. Millions of people worldwide continue to face limited or unreliable internet access, particularly in rural regions where traditional network expansion can be costly and difficult. Mesh++ aims to provide an alternative approach by creating adaptable networks that can be deployed where traditional connectivity infrastructure is unavailable or impractical.
The company’s mesh networking model is designed to allow connectivity coverage to grow organically as more nodes are installed. Each router acts as part of a larger network, enabling internet signals to travel across connected devices and reach additional users. This approach can help communities establish connectivity without requiring large-scale infrastructure investments upfront.
Following the seed financing, Mesh++ focused on expanding deployments across the United States and working with customers and distributors to increase adoption of its technology. The company has positioned its platform as a tool for improving digital access and helping close connectivity gaps in areas where traditional internet solutions remain limited.
With backing from World Within, Lateral Capital, Anorak Ventures, First Leaf Capital, SOSV, GAN Ventures, TechNexus Venture Collaborative, and Illinois Ventures, Mesh++ continues working toward its goal of making internet connectivity more accessible through decentralized wireless networking technology.
