Lead Product Designer – Squint, Inc.

Website Menlo Ventures

About The Company

Squint’s goal is to create a product that fundamentally changes the way we consume information, using Augmented Reality (AR). Founded in October 2021 by experts in the field of AR, we went through a rigorous validation process funded by one of the world’s top VCs, Menlo Ventures — early backers of companies like Siri, Roku, Uber, Chime, and countless others. At the end of this process, we came out more sure than ever that the current landscape was ripe for the disruption that this product brings.

Our growing digital commute is vastly overlooked, think about all the time you spend navigating from place to place (on your phone) hunting down the information you need to go about your day. Working with manufacturing companies to bring this vision to life in its first form, we aim to become the platform the world uses for creating, publishing, and consuming content in AR.

Job Description

As the first designer, you will report directly to the CEO. Your role will be to help create an AR platform that will change the way content is created, published, and consumed in every facet of life. You will be creating an experience that is category-defining and the first of its kind. This will require you to understand the uses of AR and leverage the best parts to push the envelope on what is possible (i.e. re-define gestures, navigation, spatial information hierarchies, and more). You will be collaborating with PM & Eng to understand our users and map their needs to create software that is innovative, intentional, and truly world-class.

Specifically, you will be responsible for leading all design efforts (with collaboration from the Engineering and Product functions) and taking things from idea to product in users’ hands in your first month. Your typical day will include participating in and leading user research, wireframing, information structuring, rapidly prototyping with the team, and ultimately designing a product that changes the world.

Why You Might Be a Great Fit

  • You always put the user first
  • You love to ask “why”, in a way that is respectful yet thought-provoking
  • You have experience designing mobile products (iOS & Android)
  • You have experience designing for new interaction paradigms and media (i.e. connected devices, IoT, etc.)
  • You are comfortable leading all stages of the design process—conducting user research, synthesizing insights, creating user flows and wireframes, and translating your learnings into a beautiful and intuitive experience
  • You are well-versed with Figma (AfterEffects and Principle are nice-to-have)
  • You are resourceful and willing to wear many different hats
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and can make quick decisions
  • You are independent, goal-driven, and enjoy working without established protocols

Location

We are based out of San Jose, CA but we do not yet have an office. If you are in the area, we think it may be easier to join the team in person for collaboration days from time to time, when it is safe and possible to do so. That said, if you’re not in the area that is totally fine and we are remote-friendly.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Take what you need vacation policy

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances.
