Innovate UK, the country’s leading innovation agency, has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at mapping the current and anticipated transformations within the Professional and Financial Services (PFS) sector. With a focus on economic and societal impact, this initiative will identify innovation opportunities across various fields, including finance, insurance, legal, and accounting. The initiative is supported by a substantial investment of £26.5 million from Innovate UK and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Through this project, Innovate UK plans to conduct comprehensive research to explore how innovation can drive future growth in PFS. The final report, set for release in February 2025, will assess the presence and impact of innovation activities within the sector and examine the investment landscape that underpins them. Special attention will be given to regional activities across the UK, showcasing the diverse capabilities that contribute to national innovation.
Stephen Browning, Challenge Director at Innovate UK’s Next Generation Services, commented, “This project is vital as we continue to support innovation and research initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiencies and access to data. We are also eager to monitor emerging trends and challenges across various industries and regions in the UK.”
As part of this initiative, Innovate UK will partner with Whitecap Consulting, a strategy consultancy with extensive expertise in the PFS sector. Economically, the PFS sector is crucial for national growth in the UK. By enhancing efficiency through innovation, both companies in this sector and society as a whole stand to benefit.
In the coming months, this project will involve intensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including academia, industry, and the public sector. Through open dialogue, Innovate UK aims to gather valuable insights that will drive sustainable innovation within the PFS sector.
