Hummink Raises €15 Million to Scale High‑Precision Printing Technology for Advanced Electronics Manufacturing
Paris‑based deeptech startup Hummink has raised €15 million in a Series B funding round to accelerate the deployment of its breakthrough High‑Precision Capillary Printing (HPCaP) technology — a micronic‑scale printing process designed to address microscopic defects in advanced semiconductor and display manufacturing. The funding comes as global demand for higher yields and lower waste rises in response to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, high‑performance computing and next‑generation consumer electronics.
The round was co‑led by venture capital and innovation funds KBC Focus Fund, Cap Horn and Bpifrance, bringing a mix of deeptech, industrial and government‑backed support to Hummink’s capital base. In addition to these lead investors, the funding saw continued contribution from existing backers including Elaia Partners, Sensinnovat and Beeyond, as well as participation from the European Innovation Council Fund and the French Tech Seed fund managed by Bpifrance under the France 2030 programme.
Founded in 2020 as a spin‑off from the École Normale Supérieure – PSL and the CNRS by materials scientist Amin M’Barki and hardware operator Pascal Boncenne, Hummink has developed a patented technology that functions like a miniature fountain pen capable of depositing functional materials at sub‑micron precision. This innovation enables manufacturers to both print metals and functional materials and repair microscopic defects in real time — an ability that traditional lithography approaches cannot match at the smallest scales.
The company’s High‑Precision Capillary Printing tools act as “surgical instruments at the micronic level,” complementing existing manufacturing processes by identifying and correcting the tiny flaws that can derail entire batches of chips or displays. These flaws are a growing concern in industries like OLED display production and semiconductor fabrication, where even tiny imperfections can lead to significant yield losses and wasted material.
Hummink’s funding will be used to further develop its industrial printing module and prepare the HPCaP technology for full integration into semiconductor and display fabrication lines worldwide. The capital injection is aimed at scaling the company’s ability to support manufacturers seeking to improve yields, reduce waste and make production more sustainable.
To date, Hummink generates revenue through sales of its NAZCA demonstrator, a first‑generation high‑precision printing system designed for research and development labs, as well as from custom conductive inks that complement its printing technology. NAZCA units have been installed in research centres across Europe, Asia and the United States, including notable use in producing fully recyclable sub‑micron printed electronics.
The technology’s first significant integration use case targets next‑generation OLED displays for smartphones and laptops, where up to 30 per cent of production is reportedly discarded annually due to microscopic defects. Early tests suggest Hummink’s solution could help recover a significant portion of this lost output by correcting defects that traditional processes miss, boosting yields and reducing material waste.
Hummink’s team now operates across multiple regions including the United States, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, reflecting the global nature of the semiconductor and display markets. With strong demand for its printing modules and conductive inks, the company expects to double its workforce by 2026 and aims to double revenue by the end of the year, backed by the strategic support of its investor group.
Investors backing the company see its technology as a critical enabler in advanced manufacturing, particularly as industries strive to keep pace with the increasing complexity and shrinking feature sizes of modern chips and displays.
