Greycroft Leads $80 Million Series A Funding for Contextual AI to Enhance Enterprise Solutions

Greycroft, along with a group of other investors, has spearheaded an $80 million Series A funding round for Contextual AI, a company dedicated to revolutionizing the workplace through artificial intelligence (AI). This investment aims to accelerate Contextual AI’s mission of delivering production-ready large language models (LLMs) tailored for various enterprise sectors.

Founded just over a year ago, Contextual AI has quickly assembled a team of seasoned professionals from the enterprise and AI fields. The company has successfully integrated its AI platform within production environments at several leading Fortune 500 firms and has published groundbreaking research, including advancements in its RAG 2.0 technology.

AI is expected to significantly transform the workplace by automating complex, knowledge-intensive tasks, enabling employees to concentrate on higher-value activities. Contextual AI’s platform allows companies to develop advanced RAG 2.0 applications in mere minutes, outperforming less integrated alternatives.

Organizations can deploy the platform on secure SaaS infrastructure or on-premises, ensuring that corporate data remains protected. The on-premises option allows AI model development without sending sensitive data to external APIs, maintaining security boundaries.

While creating RAG prototypes is now relatively simple, scaling production-grade AI systems remains challenging, especially in environments that demand high accuracy and minimal error tolerance. Contextual AI addresses this challenge with an end-to-end optimization approach.

CEO Douwe Kiela, formerly with Microsoft Research and Meta, has partnered with CTO Amanpreet Singh to enhance system effectiveness. Their strategy emphasizes integrated systems over standalone generative models and prioritizes specialization over general AI solutions.

Through this focused approach, Contextual AI has developed Contextual Language Models (CLMs) powered by RAG 2.0, offering applications that are more accurate and better aligned with user needs than simpler RAG implementations.

The Contextual AI platform supports diverse applications, from technical support to investment research. Qualcomm is among their new clients, having signed a multi-year contract to use a CLM-powered customer engineering application, which is expected to improve accuracy and efficiency in addressing technical challenges.

HSBC also plans to utilize Contextual AI technology for knowledge management, aiming to leverage advanced language modeling to enhance research insights and streamline processes.

With the Series A funding, Contextual AI intends to scale operations and accelerate its go-to-market strategy to meet the rising demand for AI solutions among global enterprises. New investors, including Bezos Expeditions, NVentures (Nvidia), HSBC Ventures, and Snowflake Ventures, have joined this round, signaling strong confidence in the company’s potential.

Marcie Vu, a partner at Greycroft, underscored the transformative potential of RAG technology within the enterprise sector. With the expertise of the Contextual AI team, the goal is to deliver substantial value across various industries.
