Fortem Technologies Raises $25 Million Investment From Lockheed Martin to Scale Counter-Drone Defense Platform

Fortem Technologies, a Lindon, Utah-based company developing airspace security and counter-drone defense solutions, has secured a $25 million investment from Lockheed Martin as part of its Series B fundraising efforts. The company said the investment will help accelerate production, expand deployments, and strengthen integration of its counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) technologies within Lockheed Martin’s broader defense ecosystem.

Fortem Technologies specializes in detecting, tracking, and defeating dangerous drones through a combination of radar, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and specialized counter-drone technologies. The company’s solutions are designed to protect military assets, critical infrastructure, public venues, and other sensitive environments from unauthorized or hostile unmanned aircraft systems.

The latest investment builds on a long-term relationship between Fortem Technologies and Lockheed Martin. The companies have previously collaborated on counter-drone capabilities, and Fortem said the new financing will support expanded production capacity and broader operational deployment within Lockheed Martin’s Sanctum counter-UAS ecosystem. The companies are focused on addressing the growing global need for systems capable of detecting and responding to small, inexpensive, and increasingly sophisticated drone threats.

Founded to improve airspace awareness and security, Fortem Technologies has developed a portfolio of technologies centered around its TrueView radar platform, SkyDome system, and DroneHunter autonomous interceptor. The company’s TrueView radar technology provides real-time detection and tracking of airborne objects, while its DroneHunter system is designed to autonomously identify and capture threatening drones. Together, these technologies form a layered approach to protecting airspace from unauthorized drone activity.

The company’s funding history reflects growing investor interest in counter-drone technology as governments, defense organizations, and infrastructure operators seek solutions to address rapidly evolving aerial threats. In 2023, Fortem Technologies closed a $17.8 million funding round led by new investors including Lockheed Martin Ventures, Hanwha Aerospace, and AIM13|Crumpton Venture Partners, with additional participation from existing investors DCVC and Signia Venture Partners.

Fortem previously raised a $15 million Series A round led by DCVC with participation from Boeing, Mubadala Investment Company, Manifest Growth, New Ground Ventures, and founding investor Signia Venture Partners. That financing supported the company’s efforts to scale its TrueView radar system and expand its airspace intelligence capabilities.

The company has positioned itself at the center of a rapidly expanding counter-drone market. The proliferation of commercially available drones has created new security challenges for military installations, airports, energy facilities, borders, and other critical locations. Fortem’s technologies are designed to provide organizations with the ability to identify potential threats and respond quickly without relying solely on traditional defense systems.

The new investment from Lockheed Martin comes as demand for drone defense capabilities continues to increase globally. Military forces and government agencies have increasingly emphasized the need for affordable and scalable solutions that can counter small unmanned aircraft systems, which can be difficult to detect and inexpensive to deploy. Fortem believes its combination of radar sensing, artificial intelligence, and autonomous interception provides a practical approach for addressing these challenges.

Fortem Technologies said the additional capital will allow it to increase manufacturing capacity, improve its technology platform, and support wider adoption of its airspace security solutions. The company also plans to continue expanding partnerships with defense organizations, government agencies, and commercial operators seeking advanced protection against drone threats.

With backing from strategic defense investors and continued demand for counter-UAS capabilities, Fortem Technologies aims to strengthen its position as a provider of airspace security infrastructure. The company’s focus on autonomous detection and response technologies reflects a broader shift toward intelligent defense systems capable of addressing emerging threats in increasingly complex airspace environments. Through continued investment and industry partnerships, Fortem is working to advance the next generation of drone detection and mitigation solutions for military and civilian applications.
