Munich-based food tech company Foodji has expanded its Series A financing round, securing an additional $5.3 million, bringing the total to $28 million. The latest investment is led by Next Food Capital, a European food tech fund under Kharis Capital, with participation from existing investors Movendo Capital and DLF Venture.

Next Food Capital brings extensive expertise in the food tech and gastronomy sectors, including investments in brands like Quick, Burger King, and Nordsee. Laurent Vermer, Partner at Next Food Capital, expressed enthusiasm about supporting Foodji’s scaling and development, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to flexible and cost-efficient catering solutions.

The newly acquired funds aim to enhance Foodji’s supply chain efficiency and technological capabilities. Co-founder and CEO Daniel von Canal emphasized the importance of sustainable value creation and process optimization, aligning with the company’s goal to strengthen its market position through operational excellence.

Founded in 2016, Foodji offers intelligent food vending machines that provide fresh, healthy, and high-quality food around the clock. These machines cater to locations without traditional canteens, such as offices, production floors, universities, hospitals, hotels, and airports. Utilizing proprietary technology and artificial intelligence, Foodji forecasts individual demand at each location, automating the supply chain to minimize food and packaging waste.

In 2022, Foodji quadrupled its sales, solidifying its position as Germany’s market leader in ultra-fresh, autonomous food and beverage catering. The company plans to continue expanding its team and technological infrastructure, aiming to become the central catering solution for medium-sized companies. Co-founder and CEO Felix Munte noted the significant demand for high-quality, flexible, round-the-clock catering, especially among German SMEs, and expressed confidence in Foodji’s ability to meet this need with its innovative solutions.

Foodji is a Munich-based food tech company founded in 2016 by Felix Munte, Daniel von Canal, Moritz Munte, Dr. Oliver Friedmann, and Nicolas Luig. The company enables small and medium-sized enterprises without in-house canteens to provide employees with fresh and healthy food options through smart vending machines. These machines offer a personalized user experience, with an app for reservations and touchscreen purchases, all while ensuring significantly less food waste compared to industry averages.

The expansion of Foodji’s Series A funding underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and growth in the food tech sector, positioning it for continued success in transforming catering solutions across various industries.
