Featherless.ai Raises $20 Million Series A to Expand Open-Source AI Infrastructure Platform

Featherless.ai, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence infrastructure company, has raised $20 million in Series A funding to accelerate the development of its open-source AI model deployment platform. The round was co-led by AMD Ventures and Airbus Ventures, with participation from BMW i Ventures, Kickstart Ventures, Panache Ventures, and Wavemaker Ventures. The company said the investment will support global expansion, deeper technical integrations, improvements to its AI infrastructure, and the continued development of tools that make open-source artificial intelligence models easier for organizations to deploy.

Founded to make open-source AI models more accessible, Featherless.ai provides an inference platform that allows developers and businesses to run a wide range of open-source artificial intelligence models without managing complex infrastructure. The company focuses on reducing the technical and financial barriers associated with deploying large AI models by providing access through a serverless platform.

Featherless.ai’s platform is designed around the challenge that many organizations face when adopting AI: accessing powerful models often requires significant computing resources, specialized engineering expertise, and expensive infrastructure. The company aims to simplify this process by allowing users to access and run open-source models through its platform rather than building and maintaining their own AI deployment systems.

The company has developed technology focused on improving GPU utilization and optimizing AI inference performance. Featherless.ai said its infrastructure enables efficient switching between different AI models, helping reduce the cost and complexity associated with operating large numbers of models in production environments. This approach is designed to support developers, enterprises, and AI application builders that need flexible access to open-source models.

The latest Series A financing follows Featherless.ai’s $5 million seed round announced in 2025. That earlier investment was backed by Airbus Ventures, 500 Global, Kickstart Ventures, HF0, Panache Ventures, and Oakseed Ventures. The company used the seed funding to expand its open-source model library, improve its inference infrastructure, and develop new AI architectures designed to operate efficiently on lower-cost hardware.

Featherless.ai said the new Series A capital will help expand its model ecosystem, advance its open-source agent runtime, improve optimization across different hardware environments, and support enterprise deployments. The company is focused on building infrastructure that gives organizations greater control over their AI systems while reducing dependence on closed AI platforms.

The investment comes as businesses increasingly explore open-source artificial intelligence as an alternative to proprietary AI systems. Open-source models have gained attention because they can offer organizations more flexibility, transparency, and control over how AI technologies are deployed. However, many companies still face challenges related to infrastructure, scalability, and operational costs. Featherless.ai is positioning its platform as a solution to those challenges by providing easier access to production-ready open-source AI capabilities.

AMD Ventures, one of the Series A co-leads, invests in companies developing technologies connected to artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and advanced computing infrastructure. Airbus Ventures invests in emerging technologies with applications across aerospace and other industries. Their participation reflects broader interest in AI infrastructure companies that can support the next generation of intelligent applications.

Other investors joining the round include BMW i Ventures, Kickstart Ventures, Panache Ventures, and Wavemaker Ventures. The group brings together investors with experience supporting technology companies across artificial intelligence, mobility, enterprise software, and emerging markets.

Featherless.ai has also emphasized the importance of AI sovereignty and giving organizations greater control over their artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company believes that future AI applications will require flexible systems that allow businesses to choose their preferred models, manage their data, and deploy AI solutions in environments that match their operational requirements.

With the new funding, Featherless.ai plans to continue expanding its platform and supporting developers building applications powered by open-source AI models. The company aims to create an infrastructure layer that makes advanced AI capabilities available to more organizations while lowering the barriers associated with deploying and scaling artificial intelligence systems.

As demand for AI continues to grow across industries, Featherless.ai is positioning itself as part of a broader movement toward accessible and flexible AI infrastructure. Through its open-source model platform, the company is working to make AI deployment more efficient, affordable, and adaptable for developers and enterprises worldwide.
