Exa Secures $85 Million Series B to Advance AI-Powered Search and Hits $700 Million Valuation

Exa

Exa, a developer-focused AI search engine, has raised $85 million in a Series B funding round, pushing its valuation to $700 million. The round was led by Benchmark, with participation from Lightspeed, Y Combinator, and NVentures.

Founded in 2021, Exa builds search tools specifically tailored for AI applications, rather than search engines aimed at human users. Its offerings include a search API and “Websets,” a product designed for high-compute, wide-range queries. Among its enterprise features are customization and zero data retention.

With the new capital, Exa plans to scale up its indexing and processing infrastructure, acquire a larger GPU cluster for research, and grow its team across engineering, go-to-market, and operations. The company’s mission is to organize all information in a way that enables AI systems to achieve “perfect search.”
