Ethermed Raises $8.5 Million Series A to Expand AI-Powered Prior Authorization Automation Platform

Ethermed, a Philadelphia-based healthcare technology company using artificial intelligence to automate prior authorization and medical-necessity workflows, has raised $8.5 million in Series A funding to accelerate platform expansion, grow its engineering capabilities, and strengthen partnerships with healthcare organizations. The round was co-led by Enfield Capital Partners and Blue Marlin Partners, with participation from JumpStart Ventures, Healthliant Ventures, Woodard Family Office, and Gaingels. The financing brings Ethermed’s total funding raised to more than $15 million.

Founded in 2021, Ethermed is developing artificial intelligence solutions designed to reduce administrative complexity in healthcare. The company focuses on automating prior authorization processes, a traditionally manual workflow that requires healthcare providers to submit documentation to insurance companies before certain treatments, procedures, or medications can be approved. Ethermed’s platform uses AI to analyze clinical and non-clinical information, prepare submissions, and streamline interactions between healthcare providers and payers.

The company was created around the challenge that prior authorization creates significant administrative burdens for healthcare organizations. Providers often spend substantial time collecting documentation, interpreting payer requirements, and managing approval processes. Ethermed aims to address these challenges by creating an automated workflow that allows healthcare teams to spend more time focused on patient care rather than paperwork.

Ethermed’s platform integrates with existing healthcare systems and is designed to operate within provider and payer workflows. The company’s technology uses artificial intelligence to process healthcare information, identify requirements, and support the submission of compliant authorization requests. By automating these tasks, Ethermed aims to help reduce delays in care delivery while improving operational efficiency for healthcare organizations.

The newly raised capital will be used to expand Ethermed’s technology platform, increase engineering and product development efforts, and support the company’s growing network of health-system partners. Ethermed said the funding will help it continue scaling its AI-powered automation capabilities and further develop tools that address administrative challenges across the healthcare ecosystem.

Enfield Capital Partners and Blue Marlin Partners led the Series A investment. Blue Marlin Partners highlighted Ethermed’s use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate prior authorization processes, noting that the company’s technology is designed to address a major operational challenge within healthcare. Enfield Capital Partners invests in growth-oriented companies and participated in the round as a lead investor.

The round also included participation from JumpStart Ventures, Healthliant Ventures, Woodard Family Office, and Gaingels. The investor group combines healthcare-focused capital, technology investors, and organizations supporting emerging companies developing solutions for complex industry challenges.

Ethermed’s funding comes as healthcare organizations increasingly adopt artificial intelligence to improve efficiency and reduce administrative costs. Healthcare providers and payers have been exploring AI tools for areas including documentation, workflow automation, claims processing, and clinical decision support. Companies developing specialized AI systems for healthcare administration are seeking to address inefficiencies that have persisted for decades.

The company has positioned its technology as an “invisible” automation layer that works within existing healthcare workflows rather than requiring organizations to replace their current systems. Ethermed’s approach focuses on connecting fragmented data sources and simplifying communication between providers and payers.

The startup has also expanded its presence within the healthcare technology ecosystem. Ethermed’s platform is designed to support healthcare organizations seeking faster and more reliable prior authorization processes, helping reduce administrative friction that can delay patient access to care.

With its latest financing, Ethermed plans to continue scaling its AI-driven healthcare automation platform and expanding adoption among healthcare providers. The company aims to transform prior authorization from a time-consuming administrative process into a faster, automated workflow powered by artificial intelligence.

As healthcare systems continue searching for ways to improve efficiency while maintaining compliance and quality, Ethermed is positioning itself as a technology provider focused on modernizing one of the industry’s most persistent administrative challenges. The Series A investment provides the company with additional resources to advance its mission of reducing paperwork, improving operational workflows, and helping healthcare professionals focus more on patient care.
