The funding supports the company’s early-stage development of its minimalist AI computer designed to provide ultra-low-latency voice access to large language models through a dedicated physical interface.
The round is anchored by Y Combinator, which also serves as the company’s accelerator and primary early-stage investor. Through its Winter 2026 cohort, Y Combinator provides Button Computer with seed capital, mentorship, and access to a network of enterprise partners and venture investors as the startup builds and prepares its first commercial hardware product.
Button Computer is developing a small wearable device that clips onto a user’s clothing and activates when pressed, allowing instant communication with AI systems via voice. The company describes the product as a “tiny computer built for voice AI,” designed to reduce the friction between human intent and AI response time by eliminating the need to open a phone or launch an application. Instead, users press the device and receive immediate spoken responses from the AI.
Founded in 2025 by Chris Nolet, a former Apple staff software engineer who worked on Vision Pro, and co-founder Ryan Burgoyne, Button Computer focuses on what it calls “conversational computing,” a paradigm where AI is accessed through physical interaction rather than traditional screen-based interfaces. The founders emphasize that the device is designed for speed, privacy, and intentional use, activating only when physically pressed and not continuously listening to ambient conversations.
According to company materials, Button Computer has also attracted broader early investor interest beyond its accelerator funding, with reports indicating a larger financing total of approximately $67 million across all rounds and instruments tied to the company’s early development phase and hardware scaling roadmap.
